Bubble tea, tea houses, Asian bakeries and dessert shops in this group are usually walk-in, counter-order businesses with a menu board overhead listing sweetness and ice levels you can adjust when ordering. Standard bubble tea customization includes sugar level (0-100%), ice level, and a choice of toppings like boba pearls, pudding or jelly, usually at a small extra charge. Asian bakeries sell items individually with tongs and a tray, cafeteria-style, rather than pre-boxed, and pastries are typically less sweet than Western bakery items. Lines build up quickly after school and in the evening, especially near colleges. Most of these businesses accept cards and mobile pay and skew younger in clientele and atmosphere.

Houston is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Getting around Houston is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Texas's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Fire chinese bakery (cash only). The pineapple bun was one of the best I had in houston

Pineapple BBQ pork bun is a must have. The contrast between the sweet, crunchy pineapple topping and the savory BBQ pork filling is easily the best in town. They are consistently fresh, fluffy, and full of flavor. Pro-Tip: These sell out fast! Make sure to call at least 30 minutes ahead to place your order. Also, keep in mind there is a 6-bun minimum

If you ever watch the TV show, diners, drive-ins, and dives this is definitely the category of a dive it probably at one point had people that would sit there and eat the bakery goods however, now it’s basically people that grab it to go note you need to bring cash. This place does not accept any kind of plastic. It is cash only. The prices are an appropriate price point. The flavors are fresh and delicious even at the option today that they had some leftover steamed barbecue buns that I could take home and steam myself there they were cold but totally worth it. The atmosphere is rundown although you’re gonna grab this to go. the staff are nice and friendly, but definitely in a hurry even on a Friday at 11:30 there was a line about 6 to 8 people deep so you Be patient in parking in this retail strip mall can get very busy although there is a two or three story parking garages next-door. I highly recommend this place and look forward to coming back .

This bakery is amazing!!! Reminds me of the mom and pop bakeries that you would find at corners in small towns. 100% the best egg tarts and pineapple custard buns in Houston, possibly Texas. The only other place I have had this good quality of Chinese pastries was in San Francisco China Town. Took me forever to find a good place is Houston. Skip all the other trendy bakeries and come check this one out. It's cash only, so bring cash. Pastries go fast, so don't be surprised if they are out when you get their.

King Bakery is a small shop located in the bustling red plaza in Chinatown, Houston. The inside is very small and dim, and I thought it was closed for the day with the empty shelves and low lighting. However, when you walk in, there is a couple of older people ordering tons of buns! The person in front of me ordered 24 pork buns. No wonder the shelves were empty, and I can definitely see why. The buns are super delicious! I got three pork buns and two pineapple buns. The pineapple buns were still being baked, so we waited for 20 minutes. When we came back, we tried getting more, but the older people in front of us ordered the rest ;-; Their buns are so popular that the moment it comes out the oven, it is sold! The pineapple buns were warm. The inside was fluffy, and it was crispy on the top. I think it has to be one of the BEST pineapple buns I have ever had, especially when it is fresh out the oven. Please please try their pineapple buns!! The pork buns was also delicious, and the inside is perfect! The outside of the pork bun reminds me of a Texas Roadhouse roll, so think of their pork bun as a butter roll with char siu pork filling inside. Everything is also super cheap and
